DITHIS
The chair was made for people who like to lie down as well as sit up. To accommodate both users, we shaped the chair to be tilted and transform from an upright rocking chair into a shorter lounge chair. We took inspiration from the construction of Frank Ghery’s Wiggle Side Chair and the design of Sergio Rodrigues’s Diz Lounge Armchair.
Before designing the chair, we each measured our body dimensions to create the most ergonomic chair possible.
HUMAn behavior and design
During the spring of my sophomore year at CU, I took a class focusing on human interaction and how designs should be able to adapt to different users. Our final project involved designing and creating a chair made out of cardboard.
Our design was called “Dithis” which is Scottish for “two” referencing the two use states of the chair and the Scottish origin of the cardboard box.
The construction of the chair was 4 panels forming the chair’s profile with horizontal supports running through the panels and scored piece of cardboard on top.
